The Forestry Institute (INFOR) is a Technological Research Institute of the State of Chile, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture. It was born in 1961 as an FAO Project and was officially created by the Government of Chile in 1965.

INFOR is constituted as a private law corporation, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, it is administered and directed by an Executive Director, nominated by a Board of Directors. This Council has seven members who are in turn nominated by the Vice Presidency of the Corporation for the Promotion of Production, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Institute for Agricultural Development and the National Forestry Corporation.

The institution has five branches: Diaguitas in La Serena, Metropolitana in Santiago, Bio Bio in Concepción, Valdivia in Valdivia and Patagonia in Coyhaique.
